Audience building

Process overview

Audience building is the process of distributing campaign profiles between the test group and the control group according to the configured settings.

The system processes only profiles belonging to the profile database selected when the campaign was created. If the static segment includes profiles from different databases, the campaign uses only profiles from its own database.

The process runs in the following cases:

  • When the campaign is activated — the initial distribution of profiles based on Local control group (LCG) settings
  • When modifying an active campaign — editing LCG settings triggers recalculation
  • When the static segment is updated — newly added profiles go through incremental audience building. This happens in the background.

Working with inactive campaigns

In an inactive campaign, profile-related actions behave differently. When a profile is removed from the segment:

  • The "Left segment" event is recorded in the profile card immediately
  • The "Left campaign" event appears only after the campaign is activated

If a profile is removed from the segment and then added back before activation, the system considers only the final state — being in the segment. Campaign-level "enter/exit" events for these intermediate actions are not recorded, but the profile card still shows full segment history.

LCG changes in active campaigns

Enabling the Local control group in an active campaign starts audience building. Scheduled mailings (broadcasts, regular mailings) are paused during the process. Only new profiles entering the campaign audience (for example, through audience expansion) can be placed into LCG.

Removing LCG in an active campaign redistributes the audience — all profiles from LCG are moved to the test group.

Campaign completion

When a campaign is completed, the system automatically records the "Left campaign" event for all participating profiles.
